This chest designed by Pierre Marie follows the tradition of 18th century straw marquetry, inspired by Lison de Caunes’ personal collection of such antique chests.
Intricately crafted, this box is embellished in decorative and narrative motifs: the sun, a symbol of light and prosperity, the wheat, a direct reference to the craft, and four cylindrical legs evocative of a tabernacle. “The Sun Chest” inspired Ahmed Terbaoui’s tale where a little boy and “the woman who has gold in her hands” make a chest from wheat straws to capture rays of the sun… A beautiful ode to master artisan Lison de Caunes who made this magical case.
